Seven ~ #RunPhilRun
A couple of things I’ve heard lately are “How did you get yourself to a place where you can run 24k?” and “I could never do that!”
Well first let me say that I’m not yet “in” that place, I’m just on my way. And, yes you could!
I read an interesting report this week. If you’ve ever felt intimidated at the gym because other people are watching you, there’s a word for that: Gymtimidation. And guess what? You’re not alone.
A recent survey found 47% of us feel intimidated at the gym. And 31% feel anxious just thinking about trying to get in shape. The survey also found 37% of people who’ve never worked out think they’re too unhealthy to even start.
So here’s the thing … You can. Yes, you can … Yes. You. Can.
It works like this … START! Maybe that sounds condescending but in my very humble opinion it’s an absolute truth. Just a few steps today, a few more tomorrow … a few more the day after that, then a couple of blocks, then a kilometer. You get the idea.
Am I ever intimidated? Good Lord … ALL THE TIME! I live in an almost constant state of intimidation and insecurity but sometimes, I’m able to make myself do the things I know I need to do. And the more I do that, the easier it tends to get. When I don’t want too, I try to do it anyway.
I’m not setting any land speed records and I never will, but I’m way ahead of the people who aren’t doing it at all and so will you be. If you’re trying at all, it’s a WIN! and you need to be proud of yourself for stepping up when it’s so easy to just slip back.
If I can do it, believe me…YOU CAN do it. Yes you can.
